The qualifying rounds on “American Song Contest” are finished and the semifinals begin tonight.
“American Song Contest” airs at 8 p.m. Monday, April 25, on NBC. The show is hosted by Snoop Dogg and Kelly Clarkson.
Last week, the National Jury selected Ada LeAnn of Michigan. The rest of the jury’s top four were Sweet Taboo, John Morgan and Tenelle. Viewers now have the chance to weigh in. The three moving on to the semifinals will be announced on Monday.
Selected as semifinalists from April 11 in addition to Allen Stone of Washington are Jared Lee of Massachusetts, Stela Cole of Georgia and MARi of New Hampshire.
One performer, Ryan Charles of Wyoming has been selected to participate in the semifinals after being eliminated.
The live singing competition features 56 artists representing the 50 states, five U.S. territories and the capital, Washington, D.C. competing to win the country’s vote for the best hit song, NBC said.
The show is based on “Eurovision Song Contest,” which NBC said has been “organized for 65 years by the European Broadcasting Union and watched by 200 million viewers annually …”
The competition consists of three rounds as the artists compete in a series of qualifying rounds, followed by the semifinals and the ultimate grand final where one state or territory will win.
A national jury of 56 music experts choose one winner from each qualifying round. Then viewers have until Wednesday morning to vote on the NBC website or app or TikTok to choose another three to move on. Those three artists will be selected by the jury and viewers and announced during the next week’s show.
During the semifinals on April 25 and May 2, 10 artists will perform.
The grand final will be held on May 9 with the top 10 artists.
